1. Introduction
Janki Kachhiya ("we", "our", or "us") operates the SpendGrid - Expense Tracker mobile application (the "App").
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the App.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information Collection
2.1 Data Stored on Your Device
The App is designed to prioritize your privacy. Financial data such as transactions, categories, and profile settings are stored locally on your device using SwiftData.
Your currency preference and app settings are also stored locally and are never transmitted to our servers.
We do not transmit your personal financial data to our own servers. Your data remains on your device unless you choose to back it up to iCloud Drive or export it (e.g., as a CSV file).
2.2 iCloud Backup (Optional)
The App includes an optional iCloud Backup feature that allows you to manually save your data (transactions and budgets) as files in your private iCloud Drive. This is a manual process — you initiate backups and restores yourself from Settings → iCloud Backup.
Backup files are stored in your private iCloud Drive container and are accessible only to you. We do not have access to your iCloud data at any time.
If you delete the App, your local data is removed from your device. Backup files stored in iCloud Drive can be deleted through your iCloud account settings or via the Files app on your device.
2.3 Purchase Information
If you choose to upgrade to SpendGrid Pro, your purchase is processed by Apple via the App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements. RevenueCat may collect device identifiers (such as a vendor identifier), app version, operating system version, country, and purchase history in order to determine your subscription status and manage entitlements. Your payment details are processed solely by Apple and are never shared with us or RevenueCat.
2.4 Information Collected Automatically
Depending on how you use the App and which third-party services are active, certain information may be collected automatically, such as:
- Device information (model, operating system)
- App version and usage statistics
- Crash or diagnostic information
- Advertising-related data used to serve and measure ads (free tier only)
- Approximate location (for ad targeting purposes, free tier only)
- Purchase receipt and subscription status (via RevenueCat, Pro tier only)
3. Third-Party Services
The App uses third-party services that may collect information used to identify you:
- Apple iCloud Drive: Used to store backup files when you manually initiate a backup from within the App. Backup files are saved to your private iCloud Drive container and are not accessible to us. You control when backups are created and restored. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Google AdMob: Used to serve advertisements to free-tier users. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to personalize ads. Pro subscribers are not shown AdMob ads.
- Google User Messaging Platform: Used for ad consent and privacy messaging.
- RevenueCat: Used to manage in-app purchase entitlements and subscription status. RevenueCat may collect device identifiers, purchase history, app version, OS version, and country to determine your subscription status and manage entitlements. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store: Handles all payment processing for in-app purchases. Standard analytics and platform services are provided by Apple.
We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of these providers:
4. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Operate and maintain the App
- Save and manage your financial records on your device
- Back up your financial data to iCloud Drive when you initiate a backup
- Verify Pro subscription entitlements via RevenueCat
- Improve performance, reliability, and user experience
- Serve relevant advertisements to free-tier users through third-party partners
- Comply with legal obligations
5. How Your Data Is Handled
Your financial data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
If you use iCloud Backup, your data is saved as files in your private iCloud Drive container managed by Apple. Backups are created and restored manually — no data is transferred automatically without your action.
If you choose to export your data (e.g., as a CSV file), the content is shared only through the action you initiate.
To remove your iCloud backup files, delete them from the Files app on your device or via your iCloud account settings (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage).
6. Legal Bases and Regional Rights
If you are located in a region with privacy laws that grant you specific rights (such as the EEA, UK, or certain US states), you may have rights including:
- Access to your personal data
- Correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion of certain data
- Objection to certain processing
- Withdrawal of consent where processing is based on consent
Because your financial data is stored locally (and optionally backed up to iCloud Drive), most requests can be fulfilled by managing or deleting data directly within the App, or by removing backup files via your iCloud Drive settings.
7. Data Retention
We retain data only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
Locally stored data remains on your device until you delete the App, clear the data, or remove the records yourself.
If you have used iCloud Backup, backup files stored in iCloud Drive persist until you explicitly delete them via the Files app or your iCloud account settings, even after the App is uninstalled.
Third-party providers may retain data under their own retention policies.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Security
We take reasonable measures designed to protect information related to the App. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. International Transfers
Third-party providers used by the App may process information in countries other than your own. By using the App, you understand that your information may be processed in other jurisdictions, subject to applicable law.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above.
